WORK FIELD

Céline Rebours

President of the International Society for Applied Phycology for the triennium 2017-2020. Coordinator of PEGASUS, the "Phycomorph European Guidelines for a Sustainable Aquaculture of Seaweeds". Doctorate with specialty in Physiology, Organism Biology, Population, Interactions from the University of Caen Normandy, France (2005).

Rebours is trained biochemist, biologist and marine biologist working as a researcher in the marine and coastal section at Møreforsking Ålesund.

Rebours is interested in environmental, financial and social assessments of aquaculture production systems to produce healthy and safe feed and food with minimum negative risks on ecosystems and low carbon footprint. Her work focusses on the study of integrated multitrophic production systems both at sea and on shore. Her main expertise lies in low-trophic level organisms particularly within aquatic phototrophic organisms such as algae.

Rebours has worked on production and product development for the last 20 years both in the industry and academia. In France, she studied the impact of diet on the growth and survival of sea urchins in closed cycle and developed pilot-scale production systems for sea urchins and algae (micro- and macroalgae). She moved to Norway in 2003 and worked as production engineer to apply the technology developed during her doctorate studies in a commercial sea urchin hatchery (Bodø Kråkebolleklekkeri AS). She has later worked in other industry sectors such as the production of cod, blue mussels and algae. She has since been a researcher at Nord University and NIBIO as well as invited lecturer at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. She has also worked as an invited researcher in China, Brazil, Mexico, Scotland and New Zealand. Rebours holds three innovation prices and is author or co-author of over 100 publications e.g. technical guidelines for the industry, oral or poster communications in national and international conferences and peer-reviewed articles.

At Møreforsking Ålesund, Rebours is today leading and/or participating in several international, national and regional research projects (e.g. H2020- SEAFOODTOMORROW, NRC-244244 PROMAC, Tarelaks, RFFMN-285154 ISBIT2.0).
